The Art of Vintage Porsche Racing Posters

There is something undeniably magnetic about 20th-century motorsport design. I recently got lost down a deep rabbit hole of vintage Porsche racing posters, and it is easy to see why they remain timeless. They're masterclasses in layout, bold colour palettes, and raw, high-octane texture.

That deep dive directly inspired my latest creative project: a new graphic design series exploring "Australian races that never were."

Part One: The Royal National Park Hill Climb

For the first piece in this series, I blended automotive history with local Australian geography. The concept reimagines a fictional 1983 hill climb event tearing through Australia's iconic Royal National Park.

Behind the Design Process

The Vision: The goal was to combine the spirit and aesthetic of a 1983 Porsche victory poster with the winding, chaotic geography of 'The Nasho'.

The Technique: The composition builds on layered vector graphics, textured photography, and digital crumpled paper effects. This gives the artwork an authentic, tactile, "found in the archives" feel rather than a polished modern finish.

The Result: A high-contrast, energetic visual tribute to a classic era of motorsport, celebrating iconic vintage typography and local driving roads.

Bringing Vintage Aesthetics to Modern Branding

Recreating vintage art styles isn't just about nostalgia; it's a powerful tool for visual storytelling. By combining modern digital design tools with aged textures and classic layout principles, brands can create evocative, memorable visual assets that stand out against overly sanitised modern graphics.

This project was an absolute blast to work on, and it is only the beginning. Part two of the series is already taking shape as we head west toward classic 1950s rally aesthetics.
